Wizards Releasing all Foil Boosters

Today on Wizards.com they announced the release of all foil boosters. These boosters will be available beginning January 8th, 2010 and will contain 15 foil cards from Shards of Alara, Conflux, and Alara Reborn. The packs will come with a MSRP of $11.99 in the US. Based on the product image we can expect them to be available at generic retail stores as they are designed to hang on the shelves.

Foil Magic the Gathering Booster pack

The biggest details to realize is that these booster packs will be a combined card pool from all three sets in the Alara Block. We must believe it will follow the standard 1–3-10–1 distribution with 1 rare/mythic rare, 3 uncommons, 10 commons and 1 land, as they did not say otherwise in their official announcement.

So why would Wizards do this? It seems another premium product designed to sell well, and given that it is not in the standard booster pack, instead being a hanging pack — they’re hoping the foilness will draw in new players who see the packs at the standard retail stores.

  1. Awesome idea. do you know how difficult it is to get foil cards just by buying packs?
