Wizards announces Deck Builder’s Toolkit

Following in the style of the Fat packs, Wizards announced today the ‘Deck Builder’s Toolkit’ to be released on May 21, 2010 which will contain:

  • 100 Basic Lands
  • 125 “semi-random game cards”
  • 4 Booster packs from recent Magic the Gathering sets
  • A card storage box
  • An insert with advice and tips

This means that you’re looking at 104 basic lands and 181 non-land cards (in theory) for just around USD $20. This seems to be close to the best deal for new players to acquire cards that will allow them to build more decks. The way it is described Wizards makes it sound like this is a casual product. Also I find it interesting they say “semi-random game cards” as that seems to suggest the cards will be from multiple sets.

Questions which Wizards has answered for ManaNation

  • A Packaging image? — There are no packaging shots yet.
  • What does semi-random mean? — Of the 125 “semi-random” cards. 81 will be the same between every toolkit, 44 of these will be randomized.
  • Will the loose cards retain their expansion symbol? — Cards will retain the expansion symbol they were released in.

Update 1:48PM EST — Wizards has responded with the answers to the above questions.
