Szigeti to get Lifetime Ban?

Brian Kibler vs Peter Szigeti, 2003 US Nationals

Brian Kibler vs Peter Szigeti, 2003 US Nationals

Rumor is circulating that the long-time bad-boy of the Pro Tour, Peter Szigeti, is about to receive a lifetime ban from playing Magic the Gathering. Numerous sources in the judging community have confirmed hearing this rumor but it has not been officially announced.

Szigeti has had numerous DQs and suspensions, perhaps the most famous coming in 2003 when he top-decked a Searing Flesh, wiped it on his backside, and then slammed it down on the table. He was given a match loss for Unsportsmanlike Conduct at the time.

The most recent incident is believed to be when Szigeti shoved a fellow Magic player at Grand Prix Oakland after the person accidentally bumped him with their backpack.

We will have to wait and see what happens. To view all the official suspensions and bannings by the DCI (and the RPGA) visit this site.

  6. Oh this is the guy… The incident happened at Grand Prix Oakland on Saturday – Feb 13th.

I was sitting with some guys trading at the tables near the front doors. The round pairings had just been announced (can’t remember which round, but it was early). Then suddenly, while the herd of people are migrating from the pairing sheets to the tables this bald white guy slams another dude to the ground. (In my words and what I saw “He floored the dude”) The guy on the floor had no idea what was going on, as he was on his cell phone at the time – which flew out of his hand and across the room from the force of the push he took. The guy on the floor yells “What the ****?” The man who pushed him (which turns out to be Peter Szigeti) said “Don’t ******* push me” and proceeds to tell him “You got a ******* problem?” At this point all of us traders are wondering what in the hell is going on. Apparently, so was the guy on the floor. The guy on the floor had most likely brushed into Peter while moving through the crowd, but the force Peter put into this guy was totally uncalled for and could easily have gone as far as battery on a police report.

Later after that round was over Peter was escorted out of the building. But, I was a little irritated because at the time of the incident, even though there were staff around that saw it happen, not one of them intervened or got involved. The staff only got involved because one of the traders I was with forced the issue with staff and there was a well known TO (can’t remember his name) who took the issue to the top.
