Magic the Gathering- Tactics

Update: Wizards has announced ‘Magic the Gathering – Tactics’ as a video game partnership with Sony Online, read more about Magic the Gathering – Tactics here.

Along with the earlier reported ‘From the Vault: Relics’ was the trademark registration for a product titled ‘Magic the Gathering- Tactics.’ We know nothing about the product but it leads to some interesting speculation. Here are some ideas brought up by users on MTGSalvation’s forum:

• froffenhoffer – “Im guessing Tactics will be somewhat like Final Fantasy Tactics or a computer game that plays like D&D minis.”
• exaltedgod – “Tactics is what caught my attention. Finally, maybe some PS3 love.”
• Odin – “Magic: The Gathering – Tactics sounds like a book or some kind of box set including a strategy book. It’s been a long time since Wizards release something like that.”

Our thoughts: The use of ‘tactics’ in the title and the success that is the ‘Duel of the Planeswalker’ Xbox game, it is our belief that this represents a future pending game that may utilize the cards in some sort of Minis-esque game, or be a series of scenarios for players to work through determining the correct play.

1. I heard that WOTC was creating a book (or some other type of product – videos perhaps) that was geared toward helping players play Magic more effectively. I believe WOTC has enlisted some of the top pros to help in this effort.
