Using tournament rules, with creature pumps you're assumed to be passing priority and resolving each pump separately. You don't have to explicitly say so.

From the Magic Tournament Rules:

"Whenever a player adds an object to the stack, he or she is assumed to be passing priority unless he or she explicitly announces that he or she intend to retain it. If he or she adds a group of objects to the stack without explicitly retaining priority and a player wishes to take an action at a point in the middle, the actions should be reversed up to that point."

I think that sounds right, what Sam explained. My response would have been to wait until they pass priority (ie deciding not to block or deal damage) and then pump all the way.

The other option would be, perhaps, to leave one black open. The opponent might think you have a disfigure.

There are a lot of options.

In a previous article[1] you have mentioned "Turn to plan to see card", could you please elaborate on the math to generate these statistics (specially that i didn't understand the tables at all)?
I am guessing the the best balance would be to get the ETP random drawing distribution as close to the turn to see a card to optimise your mana spending.

PS: sorry i didn't comment on the article orignialy but comments are disabled.

In the case of the Crypt Ripper vs. Burst Lightning play, it really depends on how much mana your opponent has up. If she has five mana up for a kicked Lightning you don't attack. If she only has enough to Shock it, you attack and, before damage, continue passing priority with each pump.
