  1. Hey J,

Don’t be so hard on yourself. There is nothing you could have done against a Nissa Revane and two Nissa’s chosen in draft. I think that last person was your person to your left in draft as you passed a Nissa’s Chosen and a River boa or two putting them into Green, and I’m certain they cracked the Nissa Revane second pack first pick — passing you the Vampire Nighthawk.

Just curious why there wasn’t any sideboarding & sidboarding commentary? (or was there any sideboarding).

Also what’s your take on watching the replays of your opponents previous games to see what they’re playing and get a sense of their removal/bombs? I watch LSV’s draft videos and hear him say he’s replayed his opponent’s last round and know what to expect before mulliganing.

    Cheers,

    ~Kevin

  2. There was no sideboarding talk because there was no sideboarding. I was pretty short on playables and really only had 3 cards to bring in and none of them ever made it in.

I do watch replays when I have the time. I find that commentating on my drafts makes me play a lot slower and I am usually the last match done, so when I am done I usually do not have the time to scope out my opponents.

  3. Some bad luck there. Liked the Instigator pick, brave and logical. Also, Mark of Mutiny was the right call. But there were also some questionable picks and some questionable plays.

Eldrazi Monument can be fine in draft, but it’s not really suited to RB. You never have many guys — not many good ones, anyway. Eldrazi is a finisher for GW, GU or UW. BR has (or should have) too many other spells — removal spells — to bother with creature enhancements, which is also why Slaughter Cry and Goblin War Paint are subpar in that archetype. Your Bladetusk, Bloodwitch and beef, your Mark of Mutiny, and your removal, are your finishers. Surrakar Marauder is by far the better pick over EM (not least because of your lack of 2-drops). You also seem to like Lacerators too much. I see them like Expeditions — great early, terrible late, don’t help when you’re losing.

Personally would have double-Disfigured the 4/4 in R2G2, and saved the Mosquito. (If you’re being 2-for-1ed, save the 2-for-1 card, no?) And in round 3 game 2 — why did you not play your war paint sooner? OK, it has surprise value, but it would have given you a much better guy — and against GW, which can’t do much against it. You would have had a 6/4 versus his 2/2, no need to trade Tatters for Hookmaster… at worst it would have got rid of his Vines, but crucially, on YOUR guy, not his.

I realise no one can legislate for 3 Vines, but be honest… did you really think about the first one?

Anyways, fun games, well done, and please do more!

  4. First, I want to say how much I enjoy and look forward to your drafts every week. I appreciate the commentary you provide on selecting draft picks, which admittedly I need the most help.

Although the masses probably grow tired of the same draft, I find it most useful as if I was going to draft it would be with the new cards. Hopefully you will be able to offer some Zendikar/Worldwake drafts when they are released in a month and a half on MTGO. Perhaps the new cards will make the draft more interesting then could be perceived now. 5 months is a long time with the same set, but again, I enjoy the Zendikar draft examples, because I find them more useful then any other draft you could do, unless you did a M10 draft, which you probably did when it came out and I was not a follower then.

Lastly, I wanted to ask how you set your settings so that the card enlarged when you pointed over it. I tried to enact the same settings and was unable to figure it out. I would appreciate your or anyone else’s help on this matter.

Again, thanks for providing us with great content, and keep up the fight. May you be passed a second turn Nighthawk.

  5. @Biagio: Thanks for the feedback, I am glad you are enjoying the videos. :)

To set the card as big during gameplay, go to Menu > Settings > Game Play
The left bottom box is titled “Graphics Preferences” and the setting you want is “Game Table Design”.
“Big Card” is what you want to select.

    Hope that helps.
