This is clas­si­fied by Wiz­ards and the DCI as a ‘Con­structed’ For­mat. It has a lim­ited pool of cards for play­ers to pull from, this pool rotates with each new block and core set.

Stan­dard is the most com­mon con­structed for­mat played as it has the small­est card pool of the con­structed for­mats and is con­sid­ered the eas­i­est to get into for newer play­ers. It is also the most hotly com­pet­i­tive through online resources who mine deeply into the lim­ited card pool to find the strongest decks.
