Duels of the Planeswalkers Expansion Releases Today

Wiz­ards had announced the expan­sion a few weeks ago but today, the expan­sion for the wildly pop­u­lar ‘Duels of the Planeswalk­ers’ Xbox Live Arcade game is released. It gives play­ers three new decks and a num­ber of new cards to play with on the Xbox. Today is the release date for the expan­sion, and today Jay Schnei­der has an arti­cle on the Moth­er­ship. If you are sur­prised by the quick expan­sion to the game, then read on.

At Pro Tour Austin, Wiz­ards divulged some very impres­sive num­bers per­tain­ing to the orig­i­nal Duels of the Planeswalk­ers game. Mul­ti­ple peo­ple on their staff were not­ing that it had been down­loaded over 300,000 times since its released. The num­ber of down­loads where most games are con­sid­ered hits is to be down­loaded 100,000 times total. And Wiz­ards tripled that num­ber in just a few months. So it is not much of a sur­prise to see Wiz­ards eager to expand and press this game further.

The new expan­sion fea­tures decks for Jace Bel­eren, Sarkhan Vol, and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker. The decks in the expan­sion were also designed by the same R&D mem­ber who headed up the orig­i­nal game, Matt Place. We spoke with him when he came to Orlando for the Zendikar pre-release, and we spoke with him again at Pro Tour Austin and will be show­ing that inter­view in the upcom­ing weeks.

The game is a hit, and it is bring­ing a lot of play­ers into Magic — whether for the first time or old play­ers being drawn back in. Def­i­nitely go check it out if you have an Xbox, if you don’t then go over to a buddy’s house because the game is a ton of fun.
