He already has board position so he has no need to play anything in his 2nd phase. It wouldve been wiser to do it before he attacked or do it on your turn just in case you topdeck something useful and then bait him to use up his trick. Dont you think so? Maybe you did not care at that point anymore due to drawing not enough land or too much land in previous games and you lost confidence in your deck and your play.
